The side of Leeds we reach most easily
Leeds is a large district, and we don't pretend to cover all of it equally. From Huddersfield, the M62 runs east towards Morley, and the M621 carries on from there past Beeston and Holbeck into the city. That makes the south and west sides of Leeds the most practical for us.
In postcode terms, that means LS27 (Morley, Churwell and Gildersome), LS28 (Pudsey, Farsley, Calverley and Stanningley), LS12 (Armley, Wortley and Farnley), LS11 (Beeston and Holbeck), LS13 (Bramley and Rodley) and LS10 (Middleton and Belle Isle). The city centre is within reach, too. Jobs further north and east are possible but are checked more carefully.
Morley: a town of its own on the M62
Morley lies about five miles south-west of Leeds city centre and has its own town council, its own station on the Huddersfield line and a grand town hall that has appeared on television more than once. Like Batley, it made its money from cloth and shoddy, and it was also a coal mining area.
Housing ranges from older terraced streets to more recent estates. Typical jobs here include building flat-pack furniture, putting up shelving and curtain poles, fixing internal doors and replacing worn sealant in kitchens and bathrooms. On newer estates, the usual jobs are fence panels, gates and garden storage once the first few winters have taken their toll.
Back-to-backs in Beeston, Holbeck and Armley
Leeds and the area around it is the only part of the country where back-to-back houses survive in large numbers. A national ban on new ones came in 1909, yet the city kept building them until 1937. Beeston, on a hillside about two miles south of the centre, was built up in the Victorian era as dense housing for factory workers, and back-to-back terraces are still part of the picture. Armley has a mix of back-to-backs, through terraces, council housing and tower blocks.
These homes share walls on three sides, and rooms are often small. That makes good use of space matter: alcove shelves, wall-mounted storage, a wardrobe that fits under a sloping ceiling. We check each wall before fixing anything to it, and TV mounting depends on the wall being suitable. For jobs like boxing in pipework, refitting a loose worktop or swapping kitchen cupboard doors, see our small kitchen and bathroom repairs.
Pudsey, Farsley and the old wool villages
Pudsey sits roughly halfway between Leeds and Bradford and was known for wool manufacturing in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. Nearby Fulneck was settled by members of the Moravian Church in 1744, and its hillside chapel is Grade I listed. Farsley, a little further north, has older terraces and small cottages around Town Street, with larger detached houses towards the edges, and Sunny Bank Mills, where The Great British Sewing Bee has been filmed. Rodley, next door, has the Leeds and Liverpool Canal running through it.
Stone cottages and terraces in this part of Leeds often have the same issues as homes around Huddersfield: draughty doors, uneven walls and woodwork that needs repainting. Our interior painting work suits single rooms, hallways and stairwells. If you're nearer the Bradford end of Pudsey, our Bradford area page may also be useful.
Shared houses, flats and lettings
Leeds has a large rental market, from shared houses to city-centre flats and family terraces. We help landlords and letting agents with the small jobs that turn up at check-out or after an inspection: filling and repainting walls, fixing cupboard doors, replacing blinds, tightening handrails and renewing sealant. You can arrange key access and send photos, and we'll quote from those through our services for landlords.
Gas safety, electrical installation and plumbing work beyond a minor fix are passed to suitably registered trades. If a list includes something like that, we'll flag it when we reply.
Disposing of old items in Leeds
Leeds City Council's household waste recycling centres include sites at Middleton, on Holme Well Road, and at Pudsey. The Middleton site is for Leeds residents only, and vans, pick-ups and trailers need a separate permit there. If you're replacing old furniture, we can dismantle it first so it fits in a car more easily.
How far into Leeds we go
Leeds city centre is about 14.2 miles north-east of Huddersfield town centre as the crow flies. Our area is measured as roughly 25 miles in a straight line from Market Place, HD1 2AA, so the south and west of the city sit comfortably within it. The district stretches a long way, however. Outer areas towards the far north-east, around Wetherby and Boston Spa, are close to that limit or just beyond it. Leeds being on our list doesn't mean every address in the district qualifies, so your postcode is confirmed when we quote.
Use our quote request form to tell us about the job, add your postcode and choose the best time to call. We'll let you know whether it's one we can take on and agree the price with you first.
